SQL Server DBA(Fulltime Position in Union,NJ)

Position Title:              SQL Server Database Administrator

Department:                IT – Technology & Operations

Reports To:                 Manager, Database Administration

 

JOB SUMMARY & SCOPE 

  • The candidate for the position of SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance including upgrades and patch management, implementation of backup and recovery policies, performance tuning, capacity planning and monitoring of the existing and proposed SQL Server environment. 
  •  The candidate is also responsible for the implementation of best practice operations, system documentation and offsite high availability/disaster recovery for all SQL Server databases.
  •  The candidate should have the ability to visualize, architect, and manage the implementation of SQL Server operational procedures and processes that are appropriate to handle the growth of the company and have a desire to learn other database platforms.  The company currently has a diverse and stable operating environment. The successful candidate will build upon this environment based on the growing needs of the company.
  • The candidate will act as the single point-of-contact for the off hour on call support, coordination and management of remediation tasks associated with the SQL Server environment.

The candidate is responsible for; 1) Participating in the project management tasks towards the successful delivery of key database upgrades and projects. 2) Understanding project cost estimation. 3) Contributing in capacity and scalability planning for new initiatives. 4) Distribution of standards, policies and procedures for Data Center Operations use in supporting enterprise SQL Server databases. 5) Arrangement of production monitoring requirements for existing and new database implementations 6) Communication and coordination with internal and external facing customers/departments, 7) Recommending infrastructure enhancements/changes to improve existing products/services and/or reduce internal costs, 8) Prioritization of incident reports and key follow-up items.

The SQL Server DBA reports directly to the Manager of Database Administration.  The SQL Server DBA supports the development and production database environments in their duties of ensuring that all schedules for production processing and subsequent distribution of production output are completed on a timely and accurate basis.
